In just ten minutes, you and your child can have a letter scavenger hunt. Bundle up and head outside for a walk together.
As you walk, pay attention to and point out letters in street signs, yard signs, and store signs that you pass. Turn the activity into a game by calling it a scavenger hunt and “hunting” for each letter in your child’s name or the name of a family member. If you are headed on a long walk, you could hunt for each of the letters in the alphabet in alphabetical order. If your child is not yet skilled in letter recognition, grab some index cards and a marker to write out each letter for your child before you look for it so your child can start to associate the letter names with the letters.
