A 10-Minute Language Boost in the Pet Food Aisle

In just ten minutes, you and your child can take a detour down the pet food aisle. While at the grocery store, head down the aisle that has pet food, whether you have a pet or not!

If your child does not yet have language, point to, name, and describe the animals on the pet food packaging. If your child is expanding her language, use less common descriptive words to describe the sizes of the food packaging like “tiny” and “itty bitty” for small packages or “huge” and “enormous” for big packages. If your child is developing school readiness skills, point to and name the letters on the pet food packaging.
