Go on a 10-Minute Binocular Safari with Your Child

In just ten minutes, you and your child can create binoculars and go on a safari. Set aside the cardboard tube from your empty toilet paper rolls for a few weeks.

Once you have four, you are ready to make two sets of binoculars, one for your child and one for you! Help your child to wind a long piece of string or yarn in a figure eight pattern between and around the outside of two cardboard tubes, binding the tubes together. Secure the ends of the string with two pieces of tape. Now that you have your binoculars, go on a “safari” in your family room by looking at your regular, everyday items but with amazement. “There’s a blue, soft, fluffy animal!” (while looking at the throw pillow on your couch.) “I see a giant, wild lion!” (while looking at your cat). Be creative and have fun!
