Tub-Time Boat Races: Build & Float DIY Boats in 10 Minutes

In just ten minutes, you and your child can create boats for a race in your bathtub. Gather a few materials you likely already have in your house to create a boat for a boat race.

A simple boat can be made by taping a straw to the bottom of an empty, clean plastic container, perhaps one that held sour cream or takeout food. Cut a small piece of plastic into a triangle and tape it to the top of the straw for a flag. You can experiment with different base materials such as Styrofoam or corks to see which materials are more buoyant.

Once you have crafted at least two simple boats, fill your tub with some water and have a race.
