In just ten minutes, you and your child can race for the shade on a walk. On a sunny day, head to a park or a local walking trail that is near trees.
Pick a section that has some shady spots and some sunny spots. Play a game of “race for the shade” by running from one shady spot to another shady spot, whether that is across the grass or down the trail.
Talk about how it feels different being in the shade from being in the sun. If you are on grass and the shady spots are close together, modify the “race” by bear crawling, crab walking, or hopping between the shady spots.
