10-Minute Mystery Movement: Get Moving and Learning

In just ten minutes, you and your child can play “Mystery Movement.” Grab a few sticky notes or small slips of paper and write a simple movement on each one, actions like hop, tiptoe, crawl, march, spin, or walk backward.

Fold the slips and place them in a small bowl or cup. Invite your child to pull one card and act out the movement together. As you play, narrate what you’re doing: “We’re tiptoeing so quietly,” or “Look how high you can hop!”

Encourage your child to notice how each movement feels in their body, fast, slow, big, or small. Keep drawing cards until you’ve tried a handful of movements. This quick game builds gross motor skills, listening, and vocabulary, and it adds a burst of playful energy to any waiting moment or transition.
