Chase Your Shadows: A 10-Minute Outdoor Game for Kids

activities for kids screen free activities family fun

In just ten minutes, you and your child can chase your shadows.

On a sunny day, head outside to your backyard or a grassy field at a nearby park. Point out your shadow and your child’s shadow. Then play a game of chasing each other’s shadows. Explore different ways you can play with your shadow, like playing shadow leapfrog or playing shadow peak-a-boo using the shadow of a nearby tree. This activity works best early in the day or late in the day when shadows are longer than they are in the middle of the day. Not only does this activity help with expending some energy, but it also encourages body awareness, imaginative play, and even introduces early science concepts.
