10-Minute “What’s in the Bag?” Game for Kids: A Simple Sensory Guessing Activity for Learning at Home

In just ten minutes, you and your child can play “What’s in the bag?”

Look around your house for an empty opaque bag, such as a shopping bag, a drawstring bag, or even a purse. Then fill the bag with five common household items that are familiar to your child. These could include toys like a rubber duck or a wooden block, or kitchen items like a spoon or a bowl. Encourage your child to reach into the bag, feel one object, and guess what it is based only on how it feels. This supports sensory discrimination. Ask her to describe the object which encourages descriptive language. Depending on the age and ability of your child, you can make the game easier by showing your child the objects before putting them in the bag or by reducing the number of items in the bag.
