Build a Busy Bag: Simple Activities for Waiting on the Go

screen free activities for kids

In just ten minutes, you and your child can assemble a busy bag. Put together a “busy bag” so you’re prepared the next time you’re waiting with your child at the doctor’s office, in a restaurant, or while traveling.

Grab a zippered pouch or zip top bag and fill it with small items that will keep your child engaged. You might include sticky notes, a sheet of stickers, a small toy animal, a board book, the cardboard tube from a toilet paper roll, a small mirror, a notepad, a few crayons, pipe cleaners, a roll of painter’s tape, or a lightweight scarf. The key is to save these items only for times when you’re waiting somewhere. This keeps the busy bag feeling new and exciting. Store it in your purse or backpack so it’s ready whenever you need it.
