In just ten minutes, you and your child can play “I spy” while grocery shopping. With your child in the shopping cart, ask your child to find items you are looking for on the shelf.
Depending on the age and language level of your child, you could name the item (“I spy the Cheerios.”), describe the color or other attributes (“I spy something orange and juicy.”), describe the placement of the item on the shelf (“I spy something in a blue box on the bottom shelf.”), or name the letters on the package (“I spy a box with the letters, ‘P-A-S-T-A”.)
