In just ten minutes, you and your child can play with puddles. Grab a hose, turn on the sprinkler, or head outside after a rainstorm to explore puddles with your child.
As you play together, introduce simple science words like “pour,” “drip,” “splash,” “flow,” “absorb,” and “evaporate.” Use the words naturally as you explore: “Look how the water drips off your fingers,” or “Watch the puddle evaporate in the sun.”
You can also spark curiosity with questions such as, “Where did that puddle go?”
Encourage your child to observe what happens to water as it moves, disappears, or soaks into the ground. It’s a playful way to build early science vocabulary while having fun outdoors.
